What this test analyzes

Why this test exists (and what it actually measures)

When collaboration on a project breaks down, the issue is rarely a “lack of goodwill.” More often, it’s an interface failure: between people, roles, expectations, time constraints, and recovery capacity. The result is predictable: slowdowns, duplicated work, delayed decisions, unresolved conflicts, and a higher mental load.

This test doesn’t evaluate how “collaborative” you are as a moral trait. Instead, it measures observable patterns that make collaboration fragile or costly: how information flows, how decisions are made, how dependencies and priorities are managed, and how physiological state (stress and recovery) affects the quality of collaboration.

The three axes: what you’re paying for without realizing it

1) Stress load (stress-load-axis)

It’s not just “pressure.” It’s the combined effect of urgency, ambiguity, conflicting priorities, and interruptions that push the system (you + the team) into reactive modes: defensiveness, reduced communication, rushed decisions, or avoidance.

2) Recovery debt (recovery-debt-axis)

When recovery is insufficient, collaboration becomes more fragile: irritability increases, tolerance for ambiguity drops, and the ability to listen and integrate information declines. Recovery debt is often invisible until it shows up as a “people problem.”

3) Cognitive overload (cognitive-overload-axis)

Collaboration also fails when the mind is saturated: too many chats, too many channels, too many exceptions, too many dependencies. Cognitive overload leads to errors, forgetfulness, loss of context, and a growing need for control (micromanagement) or, conversely, disengagement.

Frequently asked questions

Does this test measure my “ability to collaborate” as a personal trait?
No. It measures conditions and patterns that make cooperation more or less sustainable: clarity of interfaces (roles, decisions, dependencies), quality of information flows, and the impact of stress, recovery, and cognitive load. A critical result is not a moral judgment: it indicates cost and fragility in the system.
Why do you include stress and recovery in a cooperation test?
Because cooperation relies on executive functions: attention, impulse inhibition, working memory, mentalizing (understanding others). High stress and insufficient recovery reduce these functions and increase reactivity, rigidity, and conflict. In practice: the same team dynamic can become manageable or explosive depending on the state of the system.
What’s the difference between cognitive overload and “too many things to do”?
Cognitive overload is mainly about managing context: too many sources, too many exceptions, too many dependencies, and shifting priorities. You can have a lot of work but a stable context (high load, low overload), or less work but a chaotic context (high overload). Cooperation suffers most in the second case.
Can the test distinguish a process problem from a relational problem?
Not in an absolute way, but it helps formulate hypotheses. If high overload and stress scores emerge along with signs of decision ambiguity, the problem is often process/interface-related. If the main signals are avoidance, distrust, and stable negative attributions, a relational component or psychological safety issue is more likely.
How reliable is it if my team is in a crisis or delivery phase?
It’s precisely in those phases that patterns become visible. The key is to interpret the result as a snapshot of a period (the last 30 days). If the crisis is exceptional, retake the test after 3–4 weeks to see whether scores return to normal or indicate a structural fragility.
What can I do if the result indicates fragile cooperation but I don’t have decision-making power over the process?
You can act on high-impact micro-interfaces: clarify input/output expectations (definition of ready/done), reduce channels and duplication, make dependencies explicit, ask for prioritization criteria and focus windows. Even without “authority,” you can improve the quality of the context you provide to others.
Does this test replace an organizational or HR assessment?
No. It’s a self-analysis tool: useful for recognizing patterns and preparing more precise conversations (with managers, PMs, the team). It does not replace process audits, climate analysis, or structural interventions.
