Prolonged immobility at work isn’t just “sitting too much.” It’s a repeated context in which muscles, breathing, attention, and the nervous system are pushed into an economy mode: less movement, less variability, more compensation. Over time, this economy can turn into persistent tension, reduced mental clarity, irritability, less restorative sleep, and physical symptoms that seem “without a cause” but follow recognizable patterns.

This test doesn’t measure whether your posture is “right” or “wrong.” It maps three axes that often reinforce one another:

How to Read the Results: Three Interconnected Axes

A high load doesn’t mean “you’re fragile.” It often indicates that your system has learned to operate in functional contraction: efficient in the short term, costly in the long term. Typical signs include elevated shoulders, a clenched jaw, upper-chest breathing, and an inner sense of urgency even when nothing is actually urgent.

2) Recovery Debt (axis_recovery_debt)

Recovery isn’t just sleep. It also means interrupting the continuity of stress: real breaks, sensory decompression, and minimal but frequent movement. A high debt often shows up as “I rest, but I don’t recharge.”

3) Cognitive Overload (axis_cognitive_overload)

When attention is fragmented (notifications, multitasking, constant switching), the body tends to stiffen to stabilize. Cognitive overload can therefore become somatic overload: more immobility, more tension, less clarity.

How long do I need to sit before immobility becomes a problem?
There isn’t a single threshold. For many people the critical point isn’t “how many hours,” but the lack of variability: staying in the same configuration (pelvis, ribcage, neck, gaze) without repeated micro-changes. Even 45–90 continuous minutes can increase stiffness and reduce attentional capacity, especially when combined with stress or multitasking.
If I have an ergonomic chair, can I ignore breaks?
A good chair reduces some mechanical loads, but it doesn’t replace variability. The body is designed to alternate contraction and release, loading and unloading. Ergonomics is a positive “multiplier,” not an alternative to movement.
Why do I tense up under pressure without noticing?
